Adobe Photoshop – Working with Colors, Selections, Shapes & Painting

 

1. Working with Colours

  • Use Color Picker to choose colors

  • Foreground color → used for painting

  • Background color → used for filling

  • Modes like RGB / CMYK for screen & print

 

2. Working with Selections

Selections allow editing specific parts of an image.

Types of Selection Tools:

  • Marquee Tool → rectangular/elliptical selection

  • Lasso Tool → freehand selection

  • Magic Wand / Quick Selection → selects similar colors

 

3. Softening & Refining Selections

  • Use Feather to soften edges

  • Use Select and Mask to refine edges (hair, objects)

  • Helps in smooth blending

 

4. Selection Operations

  • Save Selection → store selection for later use

  • Load Selection → reuse saved selection

  • Delete Selection → remove selected area

  • Move Selection → reposition selected part

  • Copy & Paste → duplicate selected content

  • Extract Selection → separate object from background

 

5. Shapes & Pen Tool

  • Shape Tools → Rectangle, Ellipse, Polygon

  • Pen Tool → draws precise paths and curves

  • Used for logos and vector designs

 

6. Painting Tools

  • Brush Tool → painting and drawing

  • Pencil Tool → hard-edge drawing

  • Gradient Tool → smooth color blending

  • Paint Bucket Tool → fill area with color
