Scroll Formatting
Scroll formatting means moving through a document while viewing or editing its contents. It allows you to navigate quickly to different parts of the document.
Ways to scroll:
- Use the mouse wheel to move up or down.
- Drag the vertical scroll bar on the right side.
- Drag the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom to move left or right.
- Use the Page Up, Page Down, Arrow keys, Home, and End keys.
Benefits:

Formatting Paragraphs with Line and Paragraph Spacing
Paragraph formatting improves the appearance and readability of a document.
(a) Line Spacing
Line spacing is the distance between lines of text in a paragraph.
Common options:
- Single (1.0)
- 1.15
- 1.5
- Double (2.0)
Steps:
- Select the paragraph.
- Go to Home → Paragraph group.
- Click Line and Paragraph Spacing.
- Choose the desired spacing.
(b) Paragraph Spacing
Paragraph spacing is the space before or after a paragraph.
Steps:
- Select the paragraph.
- Open the Paragraph dialog box.
- Under Spacing, set:
- Before
- After
- Click OK.
Advantages:

- Separates ideas clearly.
Adding Header and Footer
A Header appears at the top of every page, while a Footer appears at the bottom.
They usually contain:
- Document title
- Chapter name
- Author’s name
- Date
- Page numbers
Steps to add a Header:
- Go to the Insert tab.
- Click Header.
- Choose a style.
- Type the required text.
Steps to add a Footer:
- Go to Insert → Footer.
- Select a style.
- Enter the desired information.
- Click Close Header and Footer.

Page Numbering
Page numbering automatically adds page numbers to a document.
Steps:
- Go to the Insert tab.
- Click Page Number.
- Choose the location:
- Top of Page
- Bottom of Page
- Page Margins
- Current Position
- Select a numbering style.
- Click Close Header and Footer.

Using Grammar and Spell Check Utility
Microsoft Word checks spelling and grammar errors automatically.
- Red wavy underline: Spelling mistake.
- Blue or green underline: Grammar or writing issue.
Steps to check spelling and grammar:
- Go to the Review tab.
- Click Spelling & Grammar.
- Word displays each error.
- Choose one of the options:
- Change – Correct the mistake.
- Ignore – Skip the suggestion.
- Add to Dictionary – Save a new word.
Keyboard Shortcut:
- F7 – Starts the Spelling and Grammar check.
